Doctor of Education

doctor of education cityu scope

The Doctor of Education (EdD) program is a degree that prepares educational practitioners who can solve educational problems using existing knowledge. Considerable differences exist in structure, content, and aims between regions. The EdD usually is a professional doctorate for working or learning professionals and has a large taught component with a smaller thesis (or sometimes no thesis).

You will learn to develop strategies and policies, not only to enhance the practice but with the knowledge of issues of diversity, equity, social justice, and ethical behavior. In addition to educational settings, the EdD degree is designed to address real-world issues including clinical mental health counseling and human resource development.

Assessment method:

Coursework and Capstone

Duration : 2-4 years

Study mode : Online

Course information

  • Individuals with a previously completed master's degree will meet the basis of admission to the Doctor of Education program.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • A detailed CV outlining professional and academic achievements.
  • A research proposal that aligns with the program’s objectives and areas of study.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional or academic references.

Candidates will have a minimum of two (2) years and a maximum of four (4) years in which to complete the EdD degree successfully.

As a significant component of an EdD program, students are required to develop a research proposal outlining their intended doctoral research. The proposal typically includes a research problem statement, research questions, a review of relevant literature, a methodology section, and anticipated contributions to the field. The proposal needs to be approved by a faculty committee before students can proceed with their research.

The culmination of the research is the completion of a doctoral dissertation, which is a substantial written document that contributes new knowledge to the field of business administration.
